The OHL School of Construction in the College of Engineering and Computing at Florida International University, Miami, Florida, invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position at all ranks, with an anticipated start date in August 2015. The successful candidate must have the ability and qualifications to develop and sustain an active research program with external funding. The department seeks to augment its expertise by inviting applicants who can contribute to the following thrust areas: (1) smart buildings, net-zero systems, energy efficient and high-performance buildings, and (2) sustainable materials in construction. In addition, candidates with expertise and interest in sustainable and resilient infrastructure, data-sensing and automation, augmented reality in construction, and building information modeling (BIM) are strongly encouraged to apply. For senior level positions, a higher level of research accomplishment and scholarly activities are expected.
Applicants must have an earned doctorate in construction management, construction engineering, civil engineering, architectural engineering, other engineering fields, and/or a closely related field. Experience in the construction industry is desirable. Depending on their interest, successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with faculty in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Extreme Event Institute, International Hurricane Research Center, Applied Research Center, and the School of Architecture. Available facilities include the Wall of Wind, and Titan America Structures and Construction Research Laboratory. The OHL School of Construction houses its own Built Environment Informatics Laboratory (Moss and Associates BEIL), Construction Process Laboratory and the MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) Studio. The school offers an accredited baccalaureate program with current enrollment of over 350 students and a Master’s program with over 120 students, including a fully online Master’s program. In addition, the school faculty can supervise doctoral students in civil engineering on dissertation research in construction engineering and management. The University is strategically located in one of the largest construction markets in the United States, with the opportunity for faculty involvement with major construction firms and organizations.
