Our Master of Science in Construction Management equips students with the advanced skills needed for mid- and senior-level roles in the construction industry. It is designed for flexibility, accommodating both graduates from construction management and related fields.

The master’s program provides an environment where graduate students develop advanced knowledge to enhance professional practice and apply research-driven insights to management decisions that impact organizations in a global economy.

Upon graduation, students will possess skills in effective written communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, research methods, advanced communication technology, professional ethics, advanced construction management practices, risk management and principles of leadership in business.

Students with an undergraduate background in construction management or related areas may complete the program in one year if studying full-time. Those who need foundational courses may require additional time.

The program offers both thesis and non-thesis options: the thesis track includes 30 hours of coursework plus 6 hours of thesis work, while the non-thesis track consists of 36 hours of coursework, with up to 6 hours of independent studies.

Application Requirements

Students interested in applying to the program can decide between the thesis or non-thesis option. Choosing between a thesis and a non-thesis depends on the student’s preference, capabilities to conduct research and mutual interests between the faculty and student.

Prospective students who hold four-year undergraduate degrees in construction management or its equivalent in related fields may normally complete the program in one academic year as full-time students.

Only those applicants who have submitted complete application packets will be considered. Meeting the minimum requirements is not a guarantee of admission.

STEM Designated Program

The MS in Construction Management is a STEM-designated program, that sets students for OPT and CPT. Thus, Optional Practical Training (OPT) provides students the right to work either full-time or part-time as long as the applicant is following the immigration guidelines.

A STEM designation offers significant advantages, especially for international students. With an F-1 visa, students are usually eligible for 12 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT), which allows them to gain practical experience in their field in the U.S. after graduation. STEM students, however, can apply to extend this period by 24 additional months, providing more time for valuable work experience.

OPT is a strong pathway to obtaining a work visa and even U.S. citizenship while helping the U.S. retain skilled professionals in STEM fields.

Please refer to the international student office for more information.
