CBNA is currently looking for a Senior Estimator – Heavy Civil to join our team.

POSITION SUMMARY

CBNA is seeking a qualified and highly motivated Senior Estimator in the sector of heavy civils, who will develop cost estimates during bid and pre-construction phases and contribute to offering cost effective and responsive solutions to our prospective Clients in North America.

Candidate will be developing cost estimates for large infrastructure projects in the sector of mobility and decarbonized energy, including tunnels, shafts, and underground structures, bridges, urban rail and marine facilities in the USA and Canada. Position is in our CBNA corporate office in Miami, Florida. Position is envisioned to start in collaboration with our technical and business development teams with future potential assignment to projects in the US and also opportunities overseas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare estimates and complete bid reviews with Technical and Business Development teams
  • Participate in means and methods planning and design developments for project pursuits.
  • Review design documents such as specifications and drawings to identify risks and opportunities related to competitive pricing, using historical data.
  • Perform “take-off” from conceptual drawings to define quantities to be used in the estimate, and review take-offs performed by others to ensure accuracy of data used in estimates.
  • Estimate equipment usage and crew sizes as required to complete estimates.
  • Establish site-specific estimating criteria including wages and productivity rates.
  • Analyze and compile estimate data that impact the cost of labor, materials, equipment (such as: specific requirements, location and other factors) to ensure a reliable and timely estimate.
  • Provide direct and indirect capital cost estimates based on preliminary design and constructability documents.
  • Perform peer reviews of third-party estimates.
  • Assist in providing feasibility and benchmarking studies -green sheet estimates.
  • Contribute to the risk & opportunities register and price it
  • Utilize existing cost history as a check to complete estimate.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve procedures and tools for cost estimating (such as: cost estimating plan, work breakdown structures, resources database).
  • Work closely with Project Teams to develop and maintain estimate updates, including means & methods engineer, scheduler, JV partners.
  • Assist Project Teams with pricing adjustments and change orders for ongoing projects.
  • Coordinate and compile information from all estimating disciplines into one cost estimate
  • Review drawings, specifications and proposed project site conditions; record findings and solicit input from field operations and other corporate departments (Technical Department, HR etc…) to include in final project estimate.
  • Analyze alternative solutions and construction methods to increase competitiveness of the bid.
  • Present estimate and participate in bid reviews with senior management and partners to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Participate in Design-build preconstruction services to ensure high quality, competitive estimates and schedules.
  • Coordinate effort to complete all bid forms and assembling of proposal.
  • Identify suppliers and subcontractors for market testing; develop and review subcontractors and suppliers’ scopes of work; obtain, review and analyze quotes for best value.
  • Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to those listed above.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering or related degree required.
  • 5 to 10 years combined experience in Civil Engineering, estimating and construction
  • Strong digital literacy: computer skills to include Microsoft Office, AutoCAD; MS Project a plus.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills required.
  • Experience with HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software or other construction Software a plus.
  • Knowledge of heavy civil construction principles, with ability to read plans and specifications.
  • Attention to detail and ability to recognize discrepancies.
