CBNA is currently looking for a Planner & Civil Works Engineer to join our team.

POSITION SUMMARY

The candidate will be responsible to the schedule for the project’s design, permitting and construction during proposal and pre-construction phases. The Planner will also be tasked with developing Maintenance of Traffic plans and plan utilities relocations. He/she will also support the pre-construction manager in identifying local consents and permitting necessary to validate and progress the project, and in identifying land available to support upcoming construction works. Candidate will work under the supervision of, and in close collaboration with, the pre-construction manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attend on-site pre-bid/proposal conferences and site visits
  • Conduct thorough analysis of drawings and specifications to ensure required documentation is present and become familiar with the project;
  • Thoroughly analyze the bid documents and understand risk and opportunities relating to his/her scope and articulate those to management
  • Scheduling
    • Develop a work breakdown structure consistently with the estimating build-up
    • Incorporate inputs from method engineer, suppliers, subcontractors (including designers) and partners into the project schedule and consolidate to deliver an overarching consistent schedule
    • Develop the master schedule of the project
    • Develop detailed scheduling of works focusing on optimizing the project duration, and the teams and equipment mobilization
    • Develop detailed scheduling of pre-work activities, in coordination with the CBNA technical department and focusing on best serving the works schedule
    • Study and propose alternative and more effective approaches to sequencing and scheduling
    • Work in close collaboration with the estimator and/or method engineer of the project to optimize the project schedule and with CBNA scheduling director
    • Cost-load and resource-load the schedule
    • Identify and optimize critical and near-critical paths
    • Develop and incorporate in the master schedule the activities below
  • Maintenance of traffic (MOT)
    • Develop maintenance of traffic (MOT) solutions, plans and drawings consistently with the means and methods developed by the methods engineer and with the sequencing and scheduling of the project
    • Take into account local requirements and acceptability in the development of the MOT, including through participating in coordination with local authorities
  • Utilities
    • Develop solutions for the implementation of utilities relocations (generally defined by others)
    • Coordinate with local utilities providers to confirm feasibility and acceptability of the solution proposed
  • Consents / permitting: support the pre-construction manager in:
    • Identifying consents required for the project implementation
    • Clarifying the processes entailed, their durations, and the inputs required
    • Developing a workflow of the overall process
  • Contribute to the risks and opportunities analysis
  • Contribute to the preparation of documentation for internal reviews, presentations to the client, bid submission

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidate must have at least five (5) years working in scheduling in the construction industry, performing part or all of the duties described above, with part or all of his experience on heavy civil works
  • Candidate must have a BS degree in Civil Engineering or related field of studies
  • Experience working with construction means & methods analysis is a plus
  • Previous experience in coordinating with local stakeholders is a plus
  • Ability to coordinate with external parties (including governmental bodies and utilities providers)
  • Ability to meet critical deadlines
  • Ability to read, understand and organize construction plans and specifications
  • Ability to work independently, and in coordination with team members and supervision, while exercising great judgment
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well under pressure to meet established deadlines
  • Primavera P6 – Microsoft Project – EXCEL proficiency a must, Working knowledge of design software (e.g., CADD, Revit) is a plus
